Needless to say, the ability to highlight text in PDFs has become a must for any modern workflow. It presents multiple benefits, including improved visibility, drawing attention to key points and the ease of referencing them at a later time. Supernote is all about maximizing your reading productivity and that's why we lose no time in adding this new feature.

How to create highlights

Highlighting text in PDFs on Supernote is easy and efficient. Here are two methods to do so.

  • Using the highlighter
  1. Open a PDF document.
  2. Tap the Highlighter icon on the toolbar.
  3. Drag over text you want to highlight with pen.
  • Using the text selection tool
  1. Open a PDF document.
  2. Tap the text selection tool on the toolbar.
  3. Drag over the text you want to highlight with pen.

As soon as a highlight is created using this method, you will see a pop-up menu with additional options that you can utilize to better manage text in the PDF document.

  • Underline: Tap the Underline icon in the pop-up menu that appears when you select the text to highlight it with an underline.
  • Digest: Tap the Digest icon    in the pop-up menu to quickly create a digest.
  • Comment: Tap the Comment icon in the pop-up menu to add your own comment about the text you've highlighted.

View highlights

Once you've created highlights, you can:

  • Go to the navigation window by tapping on the toolbar.
  • Tap the Highlights tab to view the highlights you've created.
  • Single-tap a highlight with your finger or pen to quickly navigate to the page where it is located.

If you have added comments to highlights, you will notice a small comment icon    on the right side of the date line below the highlighted text. Tapping the icon will open a window where you can view, edit or delete your comments.

Edit highlights

To edit a highlight, please do the following:

  • Navigate to the page where the highlight you want to edit is located.
  • Tap the highlighter or the text selection tool on the toolbar.
  • Tap the highlighter you wish to edit with pen or finger.
  • A pop-up menu appears. In the menu, tap the Underline icon    to highlight the text with a underline.
  • Tap the underlined text to make the pop-up menu reappear. If you then tap the Color icon in the menu, you will see the underlined text turn back into a standard highlight.
  • Tap the Comment icon    to add your comment about the text you have highlighted or underlined.
  • Tap the Delete icon    to delete the text you have highlighted or underlined.

Note: We define “Underline” as another way of highlighting text.

Export highlights

The exported highlights are colored in yellow, providing an easy visual reference when reviewing a PDF document.

To see the highlight color applied to your text across devices, you will need to:

  • Tap the three dot More menu on the toolbar (if it's docked at the top or bottom of the screen).
  • Tap the Export icon .
  • Specify which pages of the highlighted text you wish to export by selecting either “All pages”, “Pages with annotations” or Customize".

When you've finished exporting the highlights, you can then view them on your computer with the original color retained.

After the highlights are exported, any comments made to the highlights will also be visible when you place your cursor over the matching highlighted text.

Delete highlights

There are two methods to delete highlights in PDFs.

  • Using the Navigation Window
  1. Open the Navigation Window.
